Cyberpunk 2077: All We Know So Far
What is Cyberpunk 2077?
Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person shooter RPG developed and published by CD PROJEKT RED, developers of the giant RPG hit The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game is based on the tabletop RPG Cyberpunk 2020, first created by Mike Pondsmith in 1988. Characters from the tabletop game will be appearing in 2077, and Pondsmith himself has been closely collaborating with the development team to craft the new game world.
What is Cyberpunk 2077’s Release Date?
Cyberpunk will be released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on April 16, 2020.
How Much Will Cyberpunk 2077 Cost?
There are both standard and collector’s edition pre-orders for the game, but unfortunately, the collector’s edition appears to already be sold out.

Will Cyberpunk 2077 take advantage of the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro?
The Microsoft Store lists Cyberpunk 2077 as Xbox One X Enhanced, with 4K Support. The PlayStation Store lists the game as PS4 Pro Enhanced. What this will mean in terms of performance isn’t yet clear.
What is the Story in Cyberpunk 2077?
In Cyberpunk 2077 you play as V, a mercenary outlaw in the megalopolis of Night City, going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset, and playstyle, and explore an open world city where the choices you make shape the story.
We know from E3 interviews and demos that the game will also take you into cyberspace, to other cities, and into the Badlands outside of Night City as well.
Is Cyberpunk 2077 an Open World Game?
Yes, Cyberpunk 2077 will allow you to freely explore the six districts of Night City and lands beyond as well. There are no loading screens between the districts and travel on vehicles through them in first and third person. The game also has full weather systems, and night and day cycles.
How will Cyberpunk 2077 Play?
As a first-person RPG from the makers of The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 will of course focus on combat, quests, and dialog. However, unlike the older CD PROJEKT RED games, Cyberpunk 2077 has full character customization. The Witcher 3 was highly restricted in terms of character creation, with the character only able to play as Geralt and Siri. Here, the player will able to customize hair, tattoos, and clothing, unrestricted by gender. At E3 2019 quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz also noted that the player will likely be able to customize V’s voice to some degree.
Aside from the cosmetic customization, you’ll be able to customize character stats and equipment, including cyberware. The game also includes a “fluid class system” that will allow the players to freely choose from three skill groups: Solo, Techie, and Netrunner.
It also has been confirmed that you can complete the game without killing anyone and that there is no Mass Effect-style alignment system so that the consequence of player choices will be freer and more realistic.
Will Cyberpunk 2077 Include Romance Options?
Romance options will be included in the game and will have more variety than in The Witcher 3. The player will be able to freely choose V’s sexual orientation instead of sticking to Geralt’s pre-defined characterization. However, in a decision that will no-doubt prove controversial, the developers chose to give romanceable NPCs pre-defined sexual orientations to make them “feel real,” so the choices you make in character creation for V’s gender will determine who you can romance in advance.
Will Cyberpunk 2077 have NPC Companions?
As shown by the character Jackie in a gameplay trailer, companions will definitely join you in Cyberpunk 2077. Some scripted missions will also require that companions join you, as we’ve seen before in The Witcher 3, but for those players who prefer to roll solo most of the game will not require them.
What is Keanu Reeves’ Role in Cyberpunk 2077?
CD PROJEKT RED has revealed that Reeves is playing the character Johnny Silverhand, a rock star of Night City who is famous for using his music to fight the authorities. Silverhand recruits the player character to fight Arasaka, a corporation that Silverhand blames for an incident where he lost both his arm and his loved ones. Johnny Silverhand is a prominent NPC in the Cyberpunk lore, and as we saw in the E3 2019 gameplay demo shown to press, he has become a cyber ghost in 2077 who inhabits V’s head and helps guide them through the game.
We do not know exactly how Silverhand’s story will tie into the game’s main quest line, but in an interview at E3 2019 CD PROJEKT RED CEO Marcin Iwiński revealed that Reeves has the second most spoken dialog in the game, after the protagonist V. The total amount of dialog recorded by Reeves amounted to roughly 15 days of audio, making his role undoubtedly important to the story.
Will Cyberpunk 2077 Include Multiplayer?
In a June 2018 interview with Eurogamer, CD PROJEKT RED quest designer Patrick Mills said that the company has multiplayer in an R&D stage, but “the game we’re shipping to you, the game you’re going to buy is the single-player experience.” When pressed on the question, Mills said that post-launch multiplayer may be coming but that there are “no promises.”
In October 2018 CD PROJECT RED announced a “long term partnership” with Digital Scapes, a Vancouver-based video game developer with expertise in “AAA multiplayer console and PC game development.” Considering previous comments about a potential multiplayer mode, it seems likely that Digital Scapes will be contributing to a post-launch multiplayer mode.
What are the System Requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 on PC?
We can expect that the requirements to run the game will be between the specs for consoles it will be released on and the powerhouse PCs it has been demoed on at E3.
In other words you should have at least an 8-core CPU running at 1.6 GHz, a graphics card as good as a Radeon 7790, and 8 GB of DDR3 RAM to run the game.
If you want to run the game on Ultra the sky is the limit, but we know a machine with the following specs was used to demo at E3 with impressive graphical results:
CPU: Intel i7-8700K @ 3.70 GHz
MB: ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-I GAMING
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V, 2x16GB, 3000MHz, CL15
GPU: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti or NVIDIA TITAN RTX
SSD: Samsung 960 Pro 512 GB M.2 PCIe
PSU: Corsair SF600 600W
